Universal Studios Hollywood has unveiled the first footage of its upcoming Jurassic World attraction. Jurassic World: The Ride will replace the Jurassic Park ride at the California location, capitalizing on the popularity of the new movies. Both Jurassic World films have earned more than $1 billion globally, ensuring a third installment in the series will be made.

Universal Studios announced details for Jurassic World: The Ride in March. Steven Spielberg, as well as Colin Trevorrow, would be helping to oversee the creation of the attraction. Based on what was revealed then, the new ride sounded similar to the original, but with even better immersion, and dinosaurs from the Jurassic World series. The famous raft drop will be returning, arguably the most memorable part of the original ride.

Universal posted the Jurassic World: The Ride trailer on its Twitter. Although the video is mostly a humorous T-Rex attack at Hollywood, the actual ride is shown toward the end. Jurassic World fans will instantly recognize the new dinosaur.

Although an animatronic T-Rex probably won’t be running amok, it looks like visitors will be able to enjoy a unique aquarium experience for part of the ride. In the video, we see the raft riding beside a tank. That tank houses a Mosasaurus, and it tries to break the glass, startling the visitors in the raft. The Mosasaurus is arguably the most popular of the new dinosaurs featured in Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom. This underwater dinosaur looks to be a centerpiece of the new ride based on the teaser. Sadly, nothing else was shown. While Universal does not have a release date yet, the company still lists summer 2019 as when the ride will go live.

Although one could argue that the current Jurassic Park ride holds up, the new updates sound very promising. Technology has greatly advanced since the original ride, allowing for greater effects and immersion. If the Mosasaurus tank as depicted in the video is anything like how the actual ride will be, visitors should be in for a treat. Interestingly, Jurassic World: The Ride is coming to California, but the original attraction seems to still be up at other locations. Time will tell if every location will be updated. In the meantime, Universal is also likely busy making preparations for Super Nintendo World. The Super Mario and other Nintendo characters-themed attraction is coming to Universal Studios Japan next year, with the other locations to follow hopefully not too long after.
