John Krasinski announces that A Quiet Place 2 has wrapped filming with a behind the scenes image. Krasinski was once mostly known for playing Jim Halpert on the NBC sitcom The Office, but in 2018 he released his third feature film A Quiet Place, and immediately established a new reputation as a horror movie director of note.

Starring Krasinski himself alongside Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place concerned a family trying to survive after an invasion by aliens who were hyper-sensitive to even the slightest sound, forcing the survivors to live in near-absolute silence. Critics acclaimed the film for its solid horror movie hook, tight direction and compelling performances, and audiences too embraced the film, which went on to gross $340 million worldwide on a reported budget of just $17 million. Now, Krasinski and company are getting back together for A Quiet Place: Part II (as it’s officially known), which went before cameras in July.

Writer-director Krasinski celebrated the start of production on his Quiet Place sequel with a BTS photo, and now he’s released another image to celebrate the wrapping of filming on the horror movie. The bridge in the image will of course be familiar to fans of the original movie. See Krasinski’s post in the space below:

Not much has been revealed about the plot of A Quiet Place: Part II, but Krasinski himself did promise that it won’t be a typical horror sequel. According to Krasinski, the film will focus on other survivors besides the returning members of the Abbott family (Krasinski’s character of course won’t be back, since he died in the original film), and will differ from sequels to movies like Alien and Jaws in that it doesn’t have to focus on the villains, but has a whole world to explore. In addition to returning stars Blunt, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds, the movie’s cast includes Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou.

It will indeed be interesting to see what writer-director Krasinski has dreamed up for the sequel to his surprise hit horror film, and if he can discover the same magic that made the original movie click so well with audiences and critics. The first film of course leaned heavily on its gimmick of forcing the characters to move in silence to avoid bringing the alien menace down upon them, and it’s fair to wonder if that hook will still be as compelling the second time around. By his comments, Krasinski seems to think that the first film established a strong enough world that audiences will want to revisit it, even if the alien threat has become familiar. At least Krasinski has a strong cast working for him in A Quiet Place 2, as well as his own proven directorial touch with suspenseful material.
