The writer of 2009’s Fanboys is offering joking indications that the famed Snyder Cut of Justice League may be the subject of a sequel to the movie. The Snyder Cut has risen to become a topic of significant mainstream attention within the past few months, with a growing number of the movie’s cast and crew advocating for its release. Indeed, the topic has risen to such proportions many high profile entertainers not connected to the movie have also joined in the calls for its release.

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, Zack Snyder stepped down from Justice League, with the movie then undergoing massive reshoots that took the superhero ensemble radically off-course from Snyder’s intended vision. Just over two years out from the theatrical release of Justice League, the ongoing push for the release of Snyder’s original version of the movie hasn’t slowed down at all. In point of fact, the issue has only grown in public prominence and popular demand for the movie’s release.

In a recent Twitter exchange, writer Adam F. Goldberg commented on a previous Screen Rant story regarding his joking comments of making the Snyder Cut the subject of a sequel to Fanboys. Goldberg commented that he would mention the topic in an upcoming meeting with Fanboys director Kyle Newman, while also commenting “I know it was a joke! But it’s a good idea!” Goldberg’s comment would also draw the attention of Louis Gregory, who jokingly expressed interest in being a part of it. Check out the Twitter exchange below:

The Snyder Cut situation isn’t that dissimilar to the plot of Fanboys. Set in the fall of 1998, the comedy sees a group of die-hard Star Wars fans reconnecting after high school. The group soon comes to learn that one of their number is dying of terminal cancer. With their friend having an estimated four months left, the group take a road trip to Skywalker Ranch in order to break in and steal a print of The Phantom Menace before their friend passes away.

One can certainly see the points of comparison between the plot of Fanboys and the Snyder Cut. The grassroots campaign for the movie’s release has drawn significant media attention for such endeavors as setting up a billboard in Times Square during New York Comic Con (drawing the thanks of Snyder himself), among numerous other methods to persuade Warner Bros. to release the Snyder Cut. The campaign has also organized significant donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, with total donations to date surpassing $100,000.

While Goldberg and Gregory are likely just having a little fun in their discussions of making the Snyder Cut the subject of a Fanboys sequel, the fact that the matter is even being discussed in such terms at all is proof positive that the matter is now very much a mainstream topic. It is clear at this point that the Snyder Cut has reached the ears of and garnered support from very big names in Hollywood, with Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck being among them. While much remains to be seen about what the ultimate result of the campaign for Snyder’s Justice League will be, Fanboys 2 making the Snyder Cut its subject matter would doubtlessly draw a huge turn out from the geek world.
